Youth and Family Ministry at Augsburg College

picture of YFM studentsAugsburg College’s Youth and Family Ministry (YFM) program equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to be leaders and advocates for children, youth and families in congregations, camps and other social service agencies.

What is it?

INTERDISCIPLINARY – You will combine the study of psychology, sociology, theology and ministry as a foundation for thinking innovatively about discipleship with youth and families in the 21st century.

PRACTICAL – You will gain practical experience and professional connections through our practicum and internship experiences resulting in approximately 240 hours of hands on learning experiences. You will also have the opportunity to gain valuable experience through our Campus Ministry Youth Ministry Teams and the Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute.

PERSONAL – Your class sizes in the YFM program will be small and your professors will be invested in your education and in your professional development. It is our goal that you achieve your goal upon graduation.

What can I do with it when I graduate?

Our students achieve their goals upon graduation, whether its entering seminary, divinity school, a volunteer corp, running an after-school youth program or getting a full-time job as a children, youth and family minister. This degree prepares you for all of these things. You will also receive support from your professors and others in discerning your call, creating a resume, and applying for jobs or graduate school.
