University Grad Fair–Cap and Gown

PURCHASING YOUR GOWN

Undergraduate Cap and Gown

In order to participate in the ceremony you will need a cap, gown and tassel. Students may opt to purchase their regalia by ordering online, by visiting the bookstore during normal business hours, or by attending the Augsburg University Grad Fair on April 10, 2019 in the Twin Cities or April 8, 2019 in Rochester.  Additional details about Commencement regalia, the Grad Fair, and the process for ordering your cap and gown will be available on the website early in the spring semester.

Graduate/Doctoral Cap, Gown and Hood

In order to participate in the ceremony you will need a cap, gown, tassel and program-specific hood. Students may opt to purchase their regalia by ordering online, by visiting the bookstore during normal business hours, or by attending the Augsburg University Grad Fair on April 10, 2019.  Additional details about Commencement regalia, the Grad Fair, and the process for ordering your cap, gown, and hood will be available on the website early in the spring semester.

Important Note about Graduate and Doctoral Commencement Hoods:  You will pick up your cap, gown and tassel at the bookstore after they are delivered to campus.  However, you will NOT receive your hood. Your hood will be provided directly to your program director, who will ensure that your hood is delivered to the stadium for the ceremony.  You will receive your hood on-stage during the ceremony on May 10, 2019.

At the Grad Fair, students will be able to get measured for and purchase their cap, gown, tassel and hood (where applicable), pick up a free set of 5 generic announcements and fill out their Senior Survey with representatives from the Strommen Center.  Commencement specific items such as diploma frames, custom announcements and other Auggie-gear will also be available for purchase.

General Information

Academic dress (cap and gown) is worn for both the Baccalaureate service and the Commencement Ceremony.

    • Gowns are worn closed, without jewelry, flowers, or other accessories.
    • Caps are worn with the mortar  board flat (parallel to the floor), short point to the front and without added accessories.  Men should remove their caps for prayers.
    • Tassels are worn to the right until directed to move at the ceremony
    • Official stoles & cords are worn around the neck. We suggest you pin these to your robe.

Official stoles/cords are approved for the following organizations:

    • Academic honors
    • Veteran/military
    • StepUP
    • Augsburg departments, e.g. Multicultural Student Services, LGBTQIA Students Services, McNair, etc.
    • Honor societies
