{"id":25340,"date":"2019-03-04T05:03:04","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T05:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/communication\/?p=25340"},"modified":"2019-03-04T05:03:04","modified_gmt":"2019-03-04T05:03:04","slug":"join-the-speech-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/communication\/2019\/03\/04\/join-the-speech-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Join the Speech Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019ve ever wanted to perfect your speaking skills, travel to different schools and meet students from other schools, and have a lot of fun in the process, then Augsburg Forensics is for you!\u00a0 We encourage you to check out what being on the \u201cspeech team\u201d has to offer.\u00a0 And&#8211;new for incoming students&#8211;we have forensics scholarships, from $3000 to $5000!<\/p>\n<p>Augsburg\u2019s Speech Team participates in 8-10 interscholastic speech tournaments each year in eleven different events, which include:<\/p>\n<h2>Interpretation Events<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Dramatic Interpretation &#8211;\u00a0 Students interpret a piece of dramatic literature performed by one individual utilizing two or more characters.<\/li>\n<li>Duo Interpretation &#8211;\u00a0 Two students interpret a cutting from a play.<\/li>\n<li>Poetry &#8211;\u00a0 Students interpret a poem or a selection of poems.<\/li>\n<li>Program Oral Interpretation &#8211;\u00a0 Students interpret a themed program containing two of the three interpretive genres (prose, poetry, drama).<\/li>\n<li>Prose &#8211;\u00a0 Students interpret a piece of prose literature using a manuscript.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Limited-Preparation Events<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Extemporaneous Speaking &#8211;\u00a0 Students give a five- to seven-minute speech on a domestic, international or economic topic, delivered after a half-hour preparation period.<\/li>\n<li>Impromptu Speaking &#8211;\u00a0Students have seven minutes to prepare and deliver an impromptu speech, usually on a familiar saying or significant quotation;
