Debbie Bates, PhD, MT-BC, wears multiple hats: clinician, manager, researcher, and educator. She is the Music Therapy Manager for Arts and Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic (OH) and provides music therapy to patients and families in the Taussig Cancer Institute. With almost 25 years of clinical experience, her work includes patients and families on the Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit, adult hospice and palliative medicine, premature infants, hospitalized children, pediatric palliative care, and adolescent and adult psychiatric patients.
Debbie received her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Dayton and her Master’s and PhD in Music Therapy from Temple University. She most frequently presents about music therapy ethics at regional, national, and international music therapy conferences and has authored publications on this topic. She has been actively involved in music therapy organizations at the state, regional, and national level. Debbie is also a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.
