Project Proposals

Augsburg University has received a grant to build capacity for integrating sustainability across the undergraduate curriculum, strengthen and grow our urban Environmental Studies program, and increase student and faculty engagement in sustainability practice and science on campus and in the community. As part of that grant there are funds available to support conference travel, course development, research, and internships related to environmental sustainability.

Funds are available to all faculty, staff and students at Augsburg! Projects that get funded through URGO are not eligible for additional funding. Priority will be given to first-time applicants.

All proposals must be relevant to the grant’s purpose to build sustainability across campus and must align with grant objectives. If you have project ideas that do not fall in the funding categories below, please reach out to the grant team: Christina Erickson, Emily Schilling, and Joe Underhill.

Conference Travel: up to $750 faculty/$600 students
Course Development: $1,500
Faculty Research: $4,000
Student Research with Faculty Mentor: student stipend – $4,000; faculty stipend – $1,000
Off-Campus Internship with Community Partner – up to $4,200
Other: Flexible – depends on project needs and available funding

All proposals are approved as they come in, but apply early since this is the last year of the grant! All funds must be spent by August 31, 2021. Applicants will be notified by the grant committee if proposal was selected for funding.

The proposals are selected for funding based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the grant objectives
  • Significance and potential impact on campus sustainability. We think about sustainability broadly – environmental, economic, social, and personal wellness – on our campus, in our neighboring community, and among our institutional partners. It includes stewarding a culture of sustainability alongside of our most precious resources – Air, Land, Water, Built Environment, People, Food, and Energy.
  • Interdisciplinarity, multifunctionality

All grant recipients will be asked to submit a report by September 15, 2021 (or earlier if the project is finished sooner). The link to the reporting form will be made available to grant recipients along with a formal acceptance letter.
