ALL F-1 students who apply for an SSN will need to have <strong>AN OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT<\/strong> before they can apply.<\/p>\n<p>As an F-1 student, you will need the following documents to apply for a Social Security Number:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your valid Passport<\/li>\n<li>Your current I-20<\/li>\n<li>Your most recent I-94 (<a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/I94\/#\/home\">get a copy of your electronic I-94 record<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.augsburg.edu\/isss\/SocialSecurityLetter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Augsburg On-campus Employment Verification Letter<\/a>\u00a0is signed and dated by your employer and an ISSS advisor at Augsburg\u00a0University<\/li>\n<li>Your application (make sure you bring either the Online Control Number (if applying online), <strong>OR<\/strong> your SS-5 FORM (see below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>FOLLOW THE APPLICATION STEPS BELOW:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25087 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-07-at-6.20.10-AM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"99\" height=\"35\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-07-at-6.20.10-AM.png 304w, https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2022-10-07-at-6.20.10-AM-300x108.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 99px) 100vw, 99px\" \/>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>START YOUR APPLICATION\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>There are TWO ways to START your application:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li># A: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssnumber\/\">ONLINE Application<\/a> <\/strong>(recommended by the SSN Administration as it speeds up the process)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The online option is easy to complete, and once you have successfully submitted your application you will receive an <strong>Online Control Number<\/strong>. Make sure you record the number or take a screenshot of the notification. Appointments (without reservation) are accepted, but we advise you to call ahead and make a reservation at this\u00a0<strong>direct number 1.888.847.0392. <\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Bring your necessary paperwork (see first section above) and be prepared for a possible long wait. Make sure you give them your correct address (and make sure you will not change your address for the next 60 days).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>When you have a SSN number, please contact the HR office at Augsburg. Stop by their office in Memorial Hall.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Social Security Card Center in Minneapolis\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(1) There is no fee to apply.<\/p>\n<p>(2) Twin Cities residents must use the Social Security Card Center to apply. Make sure to get a receipt when you visit in person.<\/p>\n<p>(3) Please do not send social security numbers or claims information over the internet or via.
