Each student’s college journey is unique! LSS facilitates personal, academic, financial, and career advising through a solution-based approach and rooted in cultural assets such as community-building, resilience, and reciprocity. Services are available in English and Spanish and include:
Personal
- Transition from high school/community college to Augsburg advising
- Individual assistance and referrals to on and off campus resources for health care, housing, internship/employment, food security, transportation, legal, and other needs
- Advice on how to navigate college and family expectations
- Mentorship
- Crisis intervention
- A safe space to reflect on both your individual, your family, and your community experiences
Academic
- Petitions
- Academic progress monitoring and intervention when needed
- College skills coaching: time management, organization, study, and goal setting
- Referral to graduate school and research opportunities including McNair Scholars and URGO
- Internships/employment information and referrals in collaboration with the Strommen Center
- Advocacy with faculty
Financial
- Financial aid award letter review
- Assistance in estimating cost of attendance, out-of-pocket costs, and exploring payment plans
- Individual and group assistance to complete FAFSA and MN Dream Act State Grant applications
- Information and workshops about financial aid and student accounts policies and processes
- Scholarship search/application support including proofreading essays/resumes and providing recommendation letters
- Additional scholarships such as HOLA Scholarship and IME Becas
