{"id":49398,"date":"2014-08-25T10:34:33","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T15:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/registrar\/?page_id=49398"},"modified":"2024-05-15T08:06:29","modified_gmt":"2024-05-15T13:06:29","slug":"non-attendance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/registrar\/faculty\/non-attendance\/","title":{"rendered":"Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation Reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>General Information<\/h2>\n<p>In order for Augsburg University to be remain in compliance with state and federal financial aid regulations, faculty must:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Submit a Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation report during the mandatory reporting window for each class indicating\u00a0students who did not attend or participate in their class at the beginning of the term.<\/li>\n<li>Report students who stop attending or participating in their class during the term through an Ad Hoc Alert or Mid-Term Progress Report anytime after the mandatory Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation reporting period.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Instructors are <strong>not<\/strong> required to take and report attendance during the whole term, however the university must know which students <strong>start and finish<\/strong>. \u00a0Instructors can gauge attendance\/participation through Census Day\u00a0of the term by one or more of the following means: class attendance, Moodle activity, pre-class survey or online introduction, contact from the student, completed assignments, quizzes or exams, etc. Instructors are free to\u00a0determine the best method for determining attendance\/participation for their class(es).<\/p>\n<h3>Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation Defined<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Beginning of Term (student\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0start):\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation is defined as\u00a0inactivity\u00a0in the classroom setting during the drop\/add period of the term and a failure to communicate with the instructor to explain that period of inactivity.<\/li>\n<li>A student who engages in an academic-related activity is considered attending\/participating and should not be reported.<\/li>\n<li>Examples of academic-related participation include:\n<ul>\n<li>Attending an in-person class<\/li>\n<li>Submitting online academic-related activity (simply logging into an online class does not count)<\/li>\n<li>Taking an exam or submitting an assignment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>End of Term (student starts but\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0finish):\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation is defined as a\u00a0lack of activity\u00a0in the classroom setting and a failure to communicate with the instructor to explain that period of inactivity.<\/li>\n<li>Examples of inactivity may include: stopping\u00a0in-person attendance at class, an absence of online participation or Moodle activity, and\/or a failure to complete assignments, exams, etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Reporting Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation<\/h2>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1T0PQ6TkIfltbIMBLEv19OHlI1KCd-YT2e1p14tSq9Uw\/edit?usp=sharing\">Instructions<\/a><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Information In order for Augsburg University to be remain in compliance with state and federal financial aid regulations, faculty must: Submit a Non-Attendance\/Non-Participation report during the mandatory reporting window for each class indicating\u00a0students who did not attend or participate in their class at the beginning of the term.
