Nearly 180,000 hours of community service by Augsburg College students last year earned the college a spot on the 2012 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. This is the fourth time Augsburg has been named to the Honor Roll with Distinction.
“Preparing students to participate in our democracy and providing them with opportunities to take on local and global issues in their course work are as central to the mission of education as boosting college completion and closing the achievement gap,” said Eduardo Ochoa, the U.S. Department of Education’s assistant secretary for postsecondary education. Claire Bergren ’12, a political science major with a concentration in public policy and global change, minor in peace and global studies, has received a Newman Civic Fellow Award. She is one of 135 students from 30 states who were recently named by Campus Compact to receive this award.
