Jennifer Simon is interviewed on cameraJennifer Simon, director of Augsburg College’s American Indian Student Services, talked to KSTP TV about the College’s 6th Traditional Powwow. Simon shared highlights of the powwow, including recognition of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community for a gift of $250,000 for endowed scholarships to support American Indian students.  Watch “Traditional Powwow at Augsburg College Thanks Local Sioux Tribe.”

Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to be honored for donation

 

Augsburg College will host a traditional powwow March 29 in the Si Melby Hall Gymnasium. The event, hosted by the Augsburg Indigenous Student Association and American Indian Student Services, includes two Grand Entries and an Honoring Ceremony to recognize graduating American Indian students.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) also will be honored for recently contributing $250,000 to endowed scholarships* for American Indian students at the College. Fifth powwow to celebrate cultures, traditions of Native American students

PowwowA powwow to celebrate the traditions and cultures of Augsburg Native American students and the Twin Cities community will be held March 23 in the College’s Si Melby gymnasium.

The powwow—now in its fifth year—is an opportunity for Augsburg’s indigenous students to share their traditions and culture with the community, according to Jennifer Simon, event organizer and director of Augsburg’s American Indian Student Services.

Powwow to celebrate traditions, cultures, accomplishments of Native American students

powwowA community powwow to celebrate the traditions, cultures, and accomplishments of Augsburg College’s Native American students will be held March 31 at Augsburg College.

“The powwow is a chance for Augsburg’s indigenous students to share the traditions and culture of our peoples with the community,” said Jennifer Simon, event organizer and director of Augsburg’s American Indian Student Services.

“It also is an important opportunity for our community to celebrate the educational accomplishments of our native students and to plant the seed in young people that education can be part of their futures.
