Augsburg alumni Jeff Swenson ’79 and Mike Good ’71 will be honored for their lifetime contributions to wrestling with honors from the Minnesota Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in April.
Swenson, who served as the Auggies’ head coach for 25 seasons (1980-84, 1986-2007) and is currently Augsburg’s Athletic Director, will be one of five recipients of the chapter’s Lifetime Service Award. Good, a two-time All-American who served as Augsburg’s head coach in the 1971-72 season and now serves as chairman of the Augsburg Board of Regents, will receive the chapter’s Outstanding American Award. Augsburg will honor the legacy of its 10-time national championship wrestling program with the dedication of the Jeff Swenson Wrestling Wall of Fame prior to the No. 1-ranked Auggies’ dual meet with No. 2-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Si Melby Hall/Kennedy Center complex. The dedication will take place at 6 p.m., with the wrestling dual against Wartburg to follow at 7:30 p.m. There is also a high school dual meet between Albert Lea and Coon Rapids at 6 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg honored several alumni during last week’s Homecoming festivities including the men’s soccer MIAC championship team from 1973 (pictured with current men’s soccer coach Greg Holker, athletic director Jeff Swenson, and President Pribbenow), nine new inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame, two first decade awardees, and two distinguished alumni.
