Augsburg University’s music programs support a broad approach to musical knowledge as a universally-shared human endeavor, one that connects us in community across time, space, and sound. Augsburg’s large instrumental ensembles will offer free, public concerts on campus this November, showcasing outstanding students performing a wide range of repertoire across styles and genres.
Concert Band
On November 16, the Augsburg Concert Band, under the direction of Kenneth Green II, will perform “Diversions,” with guest conductor Tommy Jacobs ’15, and alto saxophone soloist Anthony Sabatine ’27. The program will include compositions by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Bernhard Heiden, Clifton Williams, David Maslanka, Kevin Day, Julie Giroux, and John Mackey.

Jazz Ensemble
At their fall concert on November 18, the Augsburg Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Kenneth Green II, will perform tunes by Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Mongo Santamaría, and Mike Steinel, with featured vocalist Joey Kelly ’27. The program will also include the world premiere of “Honestly, You Lost Me,” a new composition by Jazz Ensemble members.

Symphony Orchestra
On November 21, the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra will perform “Heroic Harmonies: Music of Courage and Resilience,” with repertoire celebrating heroes and heroines young and old. From Beethoven’s “Creatures of Prometheus” to Telemann’s “Don Quixotte” and Newbold’s dramatic “Battle,” this concert features something for everyone under the direction of Mark Elliot Bergman.
