Summer Academic Programs

Session I:  May 16 - July 1, 2012 AND/OR Session II:  June 27- August 12, 2012*

CGE's study center offers two six-week long summer sessions in which students can take two courses per session. Participants looking for a longer experience can stay for 12 weeks and complete four courses. The program includes numerous guest speakers and excursions as well as optional homestays with Mexican families.

*Please note: orientation for Session II begins on Wednesday, June 27, but regular classes begin on Monday, July 2. Therefore, if you are staying for Session II after Session I, you can begin the second program immediately after the first session ends.

Location

    The program is located in Cuernavaca, a picturesque city in central Mexico. It is well known as the "City of Eternal Spring" and as a center for innovative grassroots organizing. It is located 1½ hours drive south of Mexico City and 3½ hours north of Acapulco.

    Course Offerings

    Each course is the equivalent of 4 semester hours. In each summer session, students may choose two from the following available courses:

    Spanish language instruction is provided by Mexican instructors at UNIVERSAL Center for Language and Social Communication, a high-quality language school near our Cuernavaca study center, which has served as the Spanish language school for Augsburg College programs in Mexico since 1979. Students take intensive Spanish lessons in small classroom settings, and the school also offers opportunities for private tutoring, specialized classes, or exchanges with Mexican students.

    Housing and Homestays

    Students may live in our study center or room and board will be provided by Mexican host families of modest means in Cuernavaca.

    Cost

    The cost of the 2012 program is $4,700. The program fees include tuition for two courses, course related field trips, room and board with host families, pre-trip preparation materials, airport or bus transfers, medical/emergency insurance, and general program oversight. Airfare is not included. The program price does not include passport and visa application fees or entry and exit taxes. Your entry and exit taxes may be included in the cost of airfare.

    Deadline

    Your application must be received no later than April 1, 2012. In some cases, space may be available after this date – please contact the Center for more information. Final payment for the program will be due May 15, 2012.
