Registration for SOAR opens Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

What is SOAR?

SOAR is a required two-day overnight orientation experience for all incoming first-year students who will be starting at Augsburg College in fall 2015. SOAR is designed to help with the transition to Augsburg College.

Is SOAR required?

Yes, SOAR is required for all incoming first-year students who will be starting at Augsburg College in fall 2015.

What can students expect at SOAR?

Students will register for fall classes; meet fellow classmates, faculty, and staff; explore the campus and surrounding community, learn about college resources and services; and much more.

What do students need to do before SOAR?

Students should contact Academic Advising at or 612-330-1025 for all questions and concerns regarding pre-SOAR steps.

When and where is check-in for SOAR?

Check-in and other pre-orientation activities will take place between 8:15-9:00 a.m. on Day 1 of each SOAR session and will be located in the Christensen Center Lobby. Required SOAR programming will conclude by 12:15 p.m. on Day 2 and optional SOAR programming will conclude by 2:15 pm on Day 2.

Is the overnight component of SOAR required?

Yes, the overnight component of SOAR is required of all first-year students attending SOAR regardless of their resident or commuter status.

What should students bring to SOAR?

  • Alarm clock
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Fan
  • Overnight items
  • Towel and washcloth (bedding and linens are provided)
  • Umbrella
  • Weather-appropriate clothing

Can parents and guardians attend SOAR?

No, SOAR is specifically designed for first-year students. However, parents and guardians are invited to attend Parent SOAR, an optional orientation experience. Parent SOAR takes place concurrently with the student’s SOAR session. There is also an Evening Parent SOAR option available for those parents or guardians who cannot attend a two-day session but who still want to participate in orientation. Parents and guardians can go to  to complete an online registration form. Then choose from one of the following three sessions:

  • Parent SOAR I: July 24-25, 2015
  • Parent SOAR II: July 27-28, 2015
  • Parent SOAR III: TBD
  • Evening Parent SOAR: July 30, 2015

Can siblings attend SOAR?

No, unfortunately there is no programming available for siblings during SOAR, Parent SOAR, or Evening Parent SOAR.

Where is parking available during SOAR?

During SOAR programming parking is available in any designated Augsburg College parking lot free of charge. A map of parking lots on campus can be found here.
