What is spring SOAR?
Spring SOAR takes place on Friday, January 11, 2019 and is a required half-day orientation program for all incoming first-year and transfer students starting at Augsburg University in Spring 2019 designed to help with the transition to Augsburg. Students will learn about university resources and services; have a chance to ask questions; meet fellow students, faculty, and staff; and discover why being a part of the Augsburg community is so rewarding.
Are students required to attend spring SOAR?
Spring SOAR is required for all incoming first-year and transfer students starting at Augsburg University in Spring 2019.
Should students still attend spring SOAR if they have already attended an orientation program at a previous institution?
Spring SOAR is required for all incoming first-year and transfer students starting at Augsburg University in Spring 2019 regardless of attendance at an orientation program at a previous institution. Spring SOAR is a succinct orientation program that will offer students the “nuts and bolts” of Augsburg University, but will not focus on broad transition issues that would be covered in previous orientation programs. Spring SOAR will also address concerns and answer questions students may have specifically about transitioning to Augsburg University.
Should students still attend spring SOAR if they will be commuting to campus?
Spring SOAR is designed for all incoming first-year and transfer students, regardless of their resident or commuter status.
What do students need to do prior to attending spring SOAR?
- First, all incoming first-year and transfer students need to register for their spring classes with the Office of Academic Advising prior to attending Spring SOAR. To schedule an appointment, please check your email account for invites.
- Next, all incoming transfer students need to meet with a Financial Aid Specialist. To make an appointment, contact Student Financial Services at studentfinances@augsburg.
edu or 612-330-1046 or you can schedule an appointment online by clicking HERE. Student Financial Services also takes day-of walk-in appointments during business hours. Note: Make sure your FAFSA has been completed and has been sent to Augsburg University.
- Lastly, all incoming transfer students to should visit the Admitted Transfer Student webpage and make sure they have attended to all of the information shared on the page. For questions, contact Academic Advising at firstname.lastname@example.org or 612-330-1025.
WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS BRING TO spring SOAR?
- Comfortable walking shoes*
- Weather-appropriate clothing
*During Spring SOAR students will have the option of participating in a walking campus tour.
Can parents attend spring SOAR?
Spring SOAR is specifically designed for incoming first-year and transfer students, however parents are welcome to explore the Augsburg campus and surrounding community or leave while their student participates in the Spring SOAR program.
Can siblings attend spring SOAR?
Unfortunately there is no programming available for siblings during Spring SOAR.
When and where is check-in for spring SOAR?
Spring SOAR check-in will take place between 7:45-8:15 a.m. in the Oren Gateway Center Lobby.
when does spring Soar start and end?
Check-in for Spring SOAR starts at 7:45 a.m. and the program will conclude no later than 12:00 p.m.
Where can students park during spring SOAR?
Students may park free of charge in Augsburg University Parking Lot L during the hours of Spring SOAR. A map of campus showing Parking Lot L can be found at augsburg.edu/about/map.
When do students who will be living on campus for spring 2019 move into their residence hall?
Students will receive information on their specific move-in date and time from the Department of Residence Life. For additional move-in questions, or if you wish to learn more about how to live on campus, please contact Residence Life at email@example.com or 612-330-1526.
Any student with a disability-related concern in regards to Spring SOAR should contact the CLASS/Disability Resources Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 612-330-1053. Contacting CLASS two or more weeks prior to Spring SOAR will help ensure that all necessary arrangements will be available.
