What is SOAR?

SOAR is a required two-day overnight orientation experience for all incoming first-year students who will be starting at Augsburg College in fall 2014. SOAR is designed to help with the transition to Augsburg.

Is SOAR required?

Yes, SOAR is required for all incoming first-year students who will be starting at Augsburg College in fall 2014.

What can students expect at SOAR?

Students will meet fellow incoming first-year and current students, faculty, and staff; explore the campus and surrounding community,  learn about college resources and services; obtain their Augsburg College Student IDs; and much more.

What do students need to do before SOAR?

Students should complete their Online Course Request Form and schedule their entry-level assessment tests before attending SOAR. For questions or for more information contact Academic Advising at advising@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1025.

When and where is check-in for SOAR?

Check-in and other pre-orientation activities will take place between 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Day 1 of each SOAR session and will be located in the Christensen Center Lobby. Each SOAR session will conclude by 12:00 p.m. on Day 2.

Is the overnight component of SOAR required?

Yes, the overnight component of SOAR is required of all first-year students attending SOAR regardless of their resident or commuter status.

What should students bring to SOAR?

  • Alarm clock
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Fan
  • Notebook
  • Overnight items
  • Towel and washcloth (bedding and linens are provided)
  • Umbrella
  • Weather-appropriate clothing

Can parents and guardians attend SOAR?

No, SOAR is specifically designed for first-year students.

Can siblings attend SOAR?

No, unfortunately there is no programming available for siblings during SOAR, Parent SOAR, or Evening Parent SOAR.

Where is parking available during SOAR?

During SOAR programming parking is available in any designated Augsburg College parking lot free of charge. A map of parking lots on campus can be found here.
