Regular staff employees working .500 full time equivalency (FTE) or greater, and who have completed not less than 30 days of service are eligible for holiday pay. Employees working less than 1.000 FTE are eligible for holiday pay on a basis proportionate to his or her full time equivalency. An employee must be in pay status on the working day before and the working day after a holiday in order to be eligible for holiday pay. This means you must work your regularly scheduled workdays immediately before and immediately after the holiday, or be on a previously authorized leave with pay to be eligible for holiday pay. Temporary employees are not eligible for holiday pay.

Eligible current employees as of January 1 will be awarded two floating holidays. New employees who begin working between January 1 and August 31 will be eligible for two floating holidays. New employees who begin working between September 1 and November 30 will be eligible for one floating holiday. New employees who begin working on or after December 1 will not be eligible for a floating holiday. Under normal circumstances, floating holidays must be approved in advance at the discretion of the employee’s immediate supervisor. Floating holidays must be taken as a full working day, be reported on a timesheet or Absence Report, and submitted to the Human Resources Department. Floating holidays not taken by December 31 will be forfeited. Floating holidays may not be taken after an employee has given notice of terminating employment with the College.

Because operating an educational institution represents a unique form of business activity, it is sometimes necessary for some College offices to remain open during the holidays listed above. On such occasions, the employee will be paid for the holiday and time and one-half pay (or given equal time off within the pay period in which the holiday occurs) for the hours actually worked on the holiday. Advance approval by the supervisor is required whenever an employee works on a regularly scheduled holiday.

If a holiday should fall on a day not normally scheduled as a work day for an employee, the employee will be granted another day of time off with pay as his/her holiday.
