Picture of an Augsburg production of The Three Penny Opera by Bertolt Brecht.FORCE/MATTER
A visceral speculation on the nature of time, love, relativity and gravity
November 16 and 17 at 8 p.m.
November 18 at 2 p.m.
(Performs together with The Bald Soprano)
Foss Studio Theater

This work‑in‑process combines movement and language to explore the confluence of physical law with human relationships. Force/Matter draws on laws of classical and modern physics to tell an intertwined story that speculates thematically on the nature of time, love, motion, gravity and relativity. This play is being developed with the support of The Playwrights’ Center’s New Plays on Campus Program, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

THE BALD SOPRANO by Eugene Ionesco
Student Directed by Cole Walsh
November 16 and 17 at 7 p.m.
November 18 at 2 p.m.
Foss Studio Theater

The Bald Soprano is Eugene Ionesco’s strikingly original, zany, savage satire of English language and society. In it, two married couples, a maid, and a fire chief view — through funhouse mirror lenses — this epic slapstick joke we call life.

THE EXCEPTION AND THE RULE by Bertolt Brecht
Translated by Eric Bentley
Guest Directed by Warren C. Bowles
March 11, 12, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m.
Foss Studio Theater

In a very theatrical presentation, The Exception and the Rule tells the story of the journey of “one who exploits and two who are exploited.” Brecht called this a Lehrstueck — a didactic piece. Didactic or not, it is an entertaining take on the statement,“let nothing be called natural in an age of bloody confusion, ordered disorder, planned caprice, and dehumanized humanity.”
