Creating Health Equity in Healthcare Certificate
Modality Offered: Online / In-Person / Hybrid
Category: Education / Equity & Inclusion / Health & Human Services / Leadership / Personal Enrichment
CEU Offered: Yes / No
Description: COVID-19 has illuminated health inequities and the impact that structural racism has on health. In this course you will examine health inequities and social determinants of health in communities and systems. You will employ a critical lens and become equipped to take action in your own healthcare practice and life. The work you will do in this course will impact your practice, patients, and clients.
In this hybrid course, you will engage in asynchronous activities that include reading articles, watching videos, engaging in self-directed health equity activities, and reflective writing. Each week you will participate in an online synchronous session on Zoom led by Augsburg university faculty. The synchronous sessions will include content delivery as well as small and large group discussions. We ask that you plan to be present, visible and active in these sessions in order to contribute to the learning community and to get the most out of the experience. Your perspective, experiences and voice matter. This course is eligible for CEU from the MN Board of Nursing and MN Board of Social Work.
Paideia Preview
Modality Offered: Online / In-Person / Hybrid
Category: Education / Equity & Inclusion / Health & Human Services / Leadership / Personal Enrichment
CEU Offered: Yes / No
Description: Would you like to see students improve their critical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking skills? In today’s challenging political climate, the skills of civil, civic-minded, and evidence-based democratic deliberation are a necessity. Paideia (pie DAY a) is a pedagogy that encourages student-centered, democratic discussions around a common text. It can be used with all ages and in all subject areas to foster a more inclusive learning environment, and is particularly well suited to AVID, IB and AP curricula.
The Augsburg University Paideia Program has served the Augsburg community and teachers across the United States for over thirty years. We invite you to join us this spring for one of two Paideia Institute Preview Workshops. This workshop is appropriate for practicing and preservice teachers. Participants will have an opportunity to engage in a seminar, and examine the key elements of the Paideia approach for designing and facilitating deeper classroom discussion.
