Debbie Bates

Debbie Bates, PhD, MT-BC, wears multiple hats: clinician, manager, researcher, and educator. She is the Music Therapy Manager for Arts and Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Her clinical music therapy experience includes work with patients and families on the Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit, adult hospice and palliative medicine, premature infants, hospitalized children, pediatric palliative care, and adolescent and adult psychiatric patients. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Dayton and her Master’s and PhD in Music Therapy from Temple University. Debbie most frequently presents about music therapy ethics and has authored publications on this topic. She has been actively involved in music therapy organizations at the state, regional, and national level. She is also a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. When she isn’t working or grading, she likes to play with her cats, Pebbles and Pepper.
