What is Transfer SOAR?

Transfer SOAR takes place on Tuesday, September 3 and is a required half-day orientation program for all incoming transfer students starting at Augsburg University in Fall 2019 designed to help with the transition to Augsburg. Students will learn about university resources and services; have a chance to ask questions; meet fellow students, faculty, and staff; and discover why being a part of the Augsburg community is so rewarding.

Are students required to attend Transfer SOAR?

Transfer SOAR is required for all incoming transfer students starting at Augsburg University in Fall 2019.

Should students still attend Transfer SOAR if they have already attended an orientation program at a previous institution?

Transfer SOAR is required for all incoming transfer students starting at Augsburg University in Fall 2019 regardless of attendance at an orientation program at a previous institution. Transfer SOAR is a succinct orientation program that will offer students the “nuts and bolts” of Augsburg University, but will not focus on broad transition issues that would be covered in previous orientation programs. Transfer SOAR will also address concerns and answer questions students may have specifically about transitioning to Augsburg University.

Should students still attend Transfer SOAR if they will be commuting to campus?

Transfer SOAR is designed for all incoming transfer students, regardless of their resident or commuter status.

What do students need to do prior to attending Transfer SOAR?

  1. First, all incoming transfer students need to register for their fall classes with the Office of Academic Advising prior to attending Fall SOAR. To schedule an appointment, please check your email account for invites.
  2. Next, all incoming transfer students need to meet with a Financial Aid Specialist. To make an appointment, contact Student Financial Services at studentfinances@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1046 or you can schedule an appointment online by clicking HERE. Student Financial Services also takes day-of walk-in appointments during business hours. Note: Make sure your FAFSA has been completed and has been sent to Augsburg University.
  3. Lastly, all incoming transfer students to should visit the Admitted Transfer Student webpage and make sure they have attended to all of the information shared on the page. For questions, contact Academic Advising at advising@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1025.

What should students bring to Transfer SOAR?

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Umbrella
  • Weather-appropriate clothing

Can parents or siblings attend Transfer SOAR?

Transfer SOAR is specifically designed for incoming transfer students, however parents and siblings are welcome to explore the Augsburg campus and surrounding community or leave while their student participates in the Transfer SOAR program.

Where can students park during Transfer SOAR?

Students may park free of charge in Augsburg University Parking Lot L during the hours of Transfer SOAR. A map of campus showing Parking Lot L can be found at augsburg.edu/about/map.

When do students who will be living on campus for Transfer 2019 move into their residence hall?

Students will receive information on their specific move-in date and time from the Department of Residence Life. For additional move-in questions, or if you wish to learn more about how to live on campus, please contact Residence Life at reslife@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1526.

Any student with a disability-related concern in regards to Transfer SOAR should contact the CLASS/Disability Resources Office at class@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1053. Contacting CLASS two or more weeks prior to Transfer SOAR will help ensure that all necessary arrangements will be available.

As previously noted, during Transfer SOAR students will have the option to participate in a walking campus tour. Any student with a disability-related concern about participating in this activity should contact the CLASS/Disability Resources Office at class@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1053.
