
As a highly sought after low brass performer, Dr. Scott Agster maintains an active performing schedule. He is a full-time member of several bands in the Twin Cities area including: Salsa del Soul, Jack Brass Band, Urban Classics, Co-MingL, Bluewater Kings Band, and the Explosion Big Band. Dr. Agster has toured extensively on an international level from Jazz/Blues festivals to the court of the King of Thailand. He has performed with many acclaimed artists and groups such as: Lauryn Hill, Steve Cole, The Doc Severinsen Orchestra, PJ Morton, Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, Dave Douglas, Phil Woods, Nicholas Payton, Sheila E., Pinetop Perkins, Aaron Neville, Kenny Loggins, Slide Hampton, and Trombone Shorty. Dr. Agster has also participated in pit orchestras at the Ordway Center, Children’s Theater Company, and the History Theater.
Dr. Scott Agster remains active as a clinician and guest artist. He recently directed the Minnesota All State Jazz Band in February 2021. He has also performed at many educational outreach events as a guest artist, clinician, and adjudicator. He also recently published an improvisation method book called Strategies for Improvisation under the company Departure Point Music. His initial studies in music education have helped him develop the ability to work with students of all ages and backgrounds.
Dr. Agster also maintains a regular recording schedule. You can hear him playing on numerous albums from the Dessa album, Parts of Speech to the pre-game music at a Vikings Game. He also has a body of his own recording work including a trombone duets project called Minneapolis Trombone Masterclass. Dr. Agster will be completing an album of original jazz compositions this year from his group the Scott Agster Sextet. He is also working on a Funk album featuring some Minneapolis Funk legends like St. Paul Peterson and Kirk Johnson.
Dr. Agster earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance from the University of Minnesota. He also holds a Master of Music in Trombone Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of North Texas
