This reflective course walks you through several guided exercises that allow you to articulate your personal mission and “see the whole” of your life and leadership. By developing an understanding of your values and strengths, you’ll walk away with realistic goals that are aligned with your personal mission.

Understanding Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

This course begins with an overview of the history and services of mental health and provides deep insight into common conditions and warning signs for mental health issues in children and youth. By understanding and recognizing mental health, educators can minimize mental health stigmas and become aware of available resources for teachers, students, families, and caregivers aimed at mental wellness and suicide prevention.

Led by College Board endorsed consultants, the Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) are designed for AP teachers to learn content for specific AP courses. In addition to the instruction, the APSI is a valuable opportunity to join with other educators to share best practices, strategies and tips. This certificate consists of three self-paced, online courses titled, Understanding Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Trauma-Informed Practices for K-12 Classrooms, and Transformative Social and Emotional Learning. Together these courses will provide you with a solid foundation and tools to increase your ability to support the mental health of your students.

Coaching Strategies for High School Policy Debate

Get a head start on coaching NSDA policy debate for the ‘23-24 season! We will cover topic content, pedagogical strategies, and team management techniques for new and returning coaches. Emphasis is placed on active participation strategies that teachers can leverage during the regular season.

Critical Thinking and Feedback in the Classroom - Topics in Curriculum Studies

Augsburg's Education Department is offering professional development opportunities this summer. You can earn CEU’s and/or graduate credit by completing the course. Teachers will examine their current feedback processes, and explore innovative practices to foster student agency and ownership in their classroom. Teachers will gain practical tools to apply to their classroom, and have workshop time to prepare these materials throughout the course.

Disembodying White Supremacy Through Bodywork

Learn to understand your body’s reaction to racial discomfort, identify where racial stress is stored, and metabolize that discomfort to avoid getting stuck in your anti-racism efforts. Class discussion will focus on healing and ways to root our anti-racism in healing justice. Indigenous, Black and Brown bodies will be offered an affinity space for deeper healing.

Augsburg's Education Department is offering professional development opportunities this summer. You can earn CEU’s and/or graduate credit by completing the course. The course will include practice of self care activities, self reflection, and developing a personal self care plan.

Paideia Preview

Join us for this 3 hour preview of the Paideia (pie DAY a) approach. It is a pedagogy that encourages student-centered, democratic discussions around a common text to Improve K-12 students’ critical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking skills. This interactive, in-person summer institute, designed for K-12 teachers, will provide you with tools to make learning relevant for students, while increasing their critical thinking, reading, writing and speaking skills. The institute will meet on the Augsburg University campus in Minneapolis.

Transformational Leadership and Academic Coaching Skills for Educators

Augsburg's Education Department is offering professional development opportunities this summer. You can earn CEU’s and/or graduate credit by completing the course. This experiential training will empower educators (you!) to bring out the unlimited potential (UP) in others to increase learning outcomes for all students.

Transformative Social and Emotional Learning

This reflective course aims to guide you through social and emotional learning when it is rooted in equity, identity, belonging, and community justice. By understanding the elements of transformative social and emotional learning (TSEL), teachers can identify spaces throughout the day and within their curriculum and classroom practices, where students can feel validated and celebrated for who they are as they become co-collaborators of the learning space.

This course is one step toward equipping educators to understand, recognize, and respond to the myriad of ways that trauma is present in our students and our schools.
