Human Geography – Jeanne Shin-Cooper

Greetings from the Windy City! My name is Jeanne Shin-Cooper and I am a social science teacher at Buffalo Grove High School, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I am in my 20th year of teaching. In addition to AP Human Geography, I teach a dual-credit College World Religions.

In regards to the College Board, I have been an AP Reader for 8 years and find the experience rewarding. I completed my Masters in Geography from the University of Oregon. In 2018, I was one of twelve AP Human Geography teachers given a fellowship to travel to South Korea. It was an incredible experience rooted in the importance of geographical naming and toponyms. In addition to Korea, I have traveled to over 25 countries and six continents.

In my private life, I am married to a fellow social science teacher and we have two sons in elementary and middle school. For fun, we mostly play a lot of sports. I am their sideline mama for soccer/hockey/tennis and they are my sideline babies for field hockey. In the last spare moments I have, you can find me on TV for the Big Ten Network as a color commentator for college field hockey games during the fall season.
