International Education Week 2020

November 16-20 is International Education Week (IEW)!

What is IEW?

IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that celebrates the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Augsburg University, the Center for Global Education and Experience, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and the International Student Organization (ISO) will be celebrating the week with multiple activities and events!

2020 Events and Activities

Dialogue & Food – UPDATE: This event has been cancelled. 

Date: Monday, November 16th

Time: 4 – 7 p.m.

Location: Hagfors 151

Description: ISO will have a brave space to talk about issues that are affecting International Students with a panel of current students and alumni.

 

Boren Scholarship Information Session

Date: Tuesday, November 17th

Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Location: Virtual Event on Zoom (zoom link available for Boren Session)

Description: Learn how to win a scholarship to study language abroad! A representative from the Boren Awards will present, as well as study abroad staff to help answer your questions. This event is co-sponsored by URGO. 

 

Intern in China Webinar

Date: Tuesday, November 17th

Time: 5:00 p.m.

Location: Virtual Event on Zoom (zoom link available for Intern in China Session)

Description: Learn about interning abroad in China after graduation! A representative from Augsburg’s exchange partner UIC in Zhuhai will present, as well as study abroad staff to help answer your questions. This event is co-sponsored by the Strommen Center. 

 

Poster Day

Date: Wednesday, November 18th

Time: 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Location: Christensen Center Lobby  

Description: Poster day will share information about the countries international students come from as well as information about studying abroad in those countries. 

 

Tierra y Libertad!  Commemorating The Mexican Revolution

Date: Wednesday, November 18th

Time: 4:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Location: Virtual Event on Zoom (zoom link available for Mexican Revolution presentation)

Description: Join CGEE globally faculty member and historian, Antonio Ortega, as he commemorates the 110th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. This event is co-sponsored by ALAS.

 

Gear & Donut Day 

Date: Thursday, November 19th

Time: 8 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Location: Christensen Center Lobby  

Description: Wear any ISO gear (Lanyard, T-shirt, Sweatshirt, Etc.) and get a treat. First come first serve! 

 

The Power of Language Tabling – UPDATE: This event has been cancelled. 

Date: Friday, November 20th

Time: 8 a.m. -12 p.m.

Location: Christensen Center Lobby

Description: Power of Language is a tabling event where we will give out shirts while promoting the importance of different languages. It’s a celebration of diversity and respecting our differences. First come first serve! 

 

​Cultural Night​ – UPDATE: This event has been cancelled. 

Date: Saturday, November 21st

Time: 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Location: Hoversten Chapel

Description: Cultural Night is an event hosted by the International Student Organization (ISO) that showcases the cultural diversity at Augsburg University. Cultural Night performances range from musical performances to a fashion show that will showcase the beauty in the diversity of our different cultures.
