Augsburg University Professional Licensure Disclosures

The degree programs at Augsburg University that are intended to result in professional licensure and certification are designed to meet the educational requirements for the state of Minnesota.

Per the U.S. Department of Education regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v) we are obligated to disclose whether or not Augsburg’s programs will meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in any of the U.S. states or territories. To the best of our knowledge, the following information accurately reflects the requirements applicable for each of our licensing programs.

We encourage students who may live out-of-state or intend to test or apply for licensure or certification outside of Minnesota to: (1) share this with college representatives and program officials, and (2) review the state educational requirements on the relevant licensing body’s website. Augsburg University will work collaboratively to ensure that all students stay apprised and informed regarding educational requirements for licensing eligibility wherever they may live.

Clinical Psychology

The Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program at Augsburg University trains students to function effectively as health service psychologists. There are currently two PsyD programs housed in the department. The Augsburg University/Argosy Teachout PsyD program is ‘accredited, inactive’ by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA). The PsyD program for non-teachout, non-Argosy University students is APA-accredited, on contingency, through December 8, 2026.

Minnesota: Both Augsburg’s APA-accredited, inactive teachout PsyD program and the APA-accredited on contingency PsyD program for new students meet educational requirements for psychologist licensure in Minnesota as established by the MN Board of Psychology. Requirements beyond degree completion must also be met, including but not limited to: passage of the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), one year of supervised post-doctoral practice, and passage of the Minnesota Professional Responsibility Exam.

Other Jurisdictions (AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, LA, ME, MD, MI, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, Northern Mariana Islands, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, Virgin Islands, WA, WI, WY): Augsburg University has determined that its PsyD programs meet educational requirements for licensure in these jurisdictions. Requirements beyond the completion of the degree must also be met, including but not limited to: passage of national or regional examinations, completion of supervised practice, completion of additional training, and background checks.

Other Jurisdictions (CA, TX, VA, WV): Augsburg University has determined that its PsyD programs do not meet educational requirements for licensure in these jurisdictions. Additional coursework beyond the completion of Augsburg University’s PsyD must be completed in order to meet educational requirements for licensure in these states. Requirements beyond the completion of educational requirements must also be met for licensure, including but not limited to: passage of national or regional examinations, completion of supervised practice, completion of additional training, and background checks.

Other Jurisdictions (American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, KY, MA, Puerto Rico, Republic of Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau): Augsburg University has not made a determination whether its PsyD programs meet educational requirements for psychology licensure in these jurisdictions. While graduation from an APA-accredited program is required in several jurisdictions to be eligible for licensure, requirements vary widely.

Across all jurisdictions, only state licensing boards can make the final determination of licensure eligibility. Students are responsible for checking with their state licensing boards to confirm requirements and eligibility. Be sure to check with the appropriate licensing agency in your jurisdiction to verify requirements prior to beginning any course of study. As requirements may change, check requirements on a regular basis.
