European History – Chris McBride

Hello, I’m Chris McBride from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I’ve been an AP European History Exam Reader for the past 15 years and have worked to bring insights from the reading directly to my students and peers. A few summers ago I worked with a group of fellow AP Euro teachers to help revise our LEQ rubric to its current form. I am currently serving as the AP European History Lead Consultant. I’m an AVID teacher (program that works to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities) and have worked to expand access to my AP European History class by implementing structures and supports that have helped both AVID students and their peers succeed. I’ve received recognition as a Teacher of the Year at my school through the Student Council ‘05, at the district level ‘15, and Graduating Class of ‘17. Those were nice bits of recognition, though I continually strive to improve as a teacher and really enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with peers at workshops. My goal is for everyone to walk away from our time together understanding the course, aware of the resources that are available to help teach it, and feeling supported and excited about heading into the classroom with activities and approaches that can be used immediately. In the past our online APSI had attendees from around the world and across the US participate. In our online APSI we’ll have some flexibility with scheduling, so attendees can rest assured they won’t just be sitting in front of their laptops from 8am-4pm every day. Additionally, throughout the week there will be “office hours” daily for attendees to drop-in-as-needed & work through specific needs or teaching situations they could use individual support on.
