The 2021 Expedition included a total of approximately 100 days in the field, with approximately 40 days of paddling. We started with a visit at the Headwaters, and launched from the Twin Cities on Sept. 3.
Aug. 28: Pre-trip pack-out and load-in on the Augsburg University campus in Minneapolis, then transit from Minneapolis to Lake Itasca and settle in at camp
Aug. 29-31: Lake Itasca and Line 3 Pipeline site in Palisade MN
Sept. 1-2: Return to Minneapolis for pre-trip gear sorting, assembling boats, and final orientation details
Sept. 3 : Launch at B’dote
Sept. 4 – Oct. 13: paddle and sail from Twin Cities to the Quad Cities
Oct. 14 – 23: Transit to Memphis and visit in Memphis area
Oct. 24 – Nov. 19: paddle from Memphis past Vicksburg to Natchez, the “Wild Miles,” and on to the Old River Control structure, and on to Baton Rouge
Nov. 20 – Dec. 1: transit to New Orleans and St. Bernard State Park; Thanksgiving in New Orleans and multiple site visits in NOLA
Dec. 2 – 5:shuttle to the Gulf of Mexico at Cypremort Point State Park
Dec. 6-7: Van shuttle back to Minneapolis
Dec. 13: Public presentations on the expedition
Dec. 16: Final papers/projects due
