Pastor Babette Chatman ’06
Co-director of the Christensen Center for Vocation, University Pastor, Director of Campus Ministries

REV. BABETTE CHATMAN is an Augsburg University graduate and serves as one of our University Pastors. Prior to joining the campus ministry team full-time in 2019, Pastor Babette served as a community collaborative partner with Campus Ministry and was the Associate Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She also co-chaired the Mission Table on the Minneapolis Area Synod Council.

Babette offered a distinctive presence and service at Redeemer Center for Life. Under her direction, Redeemer Center’s housing program developed into a highly effective and well-regarded model for resident empowerment and community building. Babette anchored Redeemer Center’s Housing and Transition Program (HAT), mentoring young adults towards healthy, confident adulthood through training in life skills, empowerment, and relationship-building with residents and organizations on a daily basis.

 

 

Pastor John Rohde Schwehn
Co-director of the Christensen Center for Vocation, University Pastor

John Rohde Schwehn comes to Augsburg after five years of parish ministry with Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton, MN. A graduate of St. Olaf College and Yale Divinity School, he has also served congregations in St. Louis Park and Northfield, MN. He is passionate about forming community through practices of hospitality, worship, and justice. In addition to pastoral ministry, he has also been a contributing author to Augsburg Fortress’s suite of resources on scripture, theology, and Lutheran identity based on the works of Pr. Dan Erlander (Manna and Mercy; Baptized, We Live; A Place for You; Water Washed, Spirit Born). John is incredibly excited to work alongside (and learn from) the Augsburg community, especially its dynamic, curious students. He lives in north Minneapolis with his wife, Anna, and their two daughters, Lydia (5) and Mira (2).
