Transfer Students

You didn’t start your degree at Augsburg, but you can finish it here. We welcome transfer students from colleges and universities across the U.S. and the world. From the very beginning of your experience, you’ll find people who will try and help make your transition to Augsburg as easy as possible.

Transferring from a U.S. college or university

Complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Augsburg Application
  2. Submit a non-refundable application fee of $100.00 (US Dollars)
  3. Request official transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended
  4. Request final secondary school transcript/certificate if you have completed less than one year of college level coursework (approximately 24-32 credits)
  5. Send one letter of academic recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor (optional)
  6. Provide Proof of English Language Proficiency (see below)

Transferring from a college or university outside the U.S.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Augsburg Application
  2. Submit a non-refundable application fee of $100.00 (US Dollars)
  3. Request final secondary school transcript/certificate if you have completed less than one year of college level coursework (approximately 24-32 credits)
  4. Request official transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended (for documents not in English, please include the English translation) accompanied by a Professional Credential Evaluation from World Education ServicesEducational Credential Evaluators or any NACES accredited organization. We require a course-by-course evaluation to show your complete course listing with credit values and grades received for each course.
  5. Submit one letter of academic recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor (optional)
  6. Provide Proof of English Language Proficiency (see below)

Providing Proof of English Language Proficiency

To fulfill Augsburg University’s English Language Proficiency Requirement, all applicants must provide evidence of a sufficient command of both written and spoken English. Non-native English language speakers may be exempt from this requirement and request a waiver based on the successful demonstration of one of the following (applicants may be asked to provide official documentation):  

  • Completion of a previous undergraduate or graduate degree at a college or university within the United States.
  • Completion of a previous undergraduate or graduate degree at an English-speaking college or university in any country where English is the sole or dominant language. 
  • Completion of one academic year of transferable college level English courses (e.g.: English 101 and English 102) at a college or university within the United States, with equivalent grades of a B or higher. 
  • Completion of at least level 4 of the Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) at the University of Minnesota.

Outside of the waiverable exemptions listed above, prospective international students may demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:

Score reports must be sent to Augsburg directly from the testing center. Score reports must be for exams completed within the last two years. Please contact your Admissions representative to inquire about any tests not reflected here.
