BA to MPH Breaking into Public Health

Bouvé College of Health Sciences is hosting a virtual webinar, BA to MPH Breaking into Public Health, on Wednesday, January 27 from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm CST via Zoom. Their public health faculty will discuss the strengths that liberal arts and non-science majors can bring to this unique MPH program. Their MPH program relies on their current skills in logic and reasoning as well as a passion to make change locally, regionally, and globally. There are no prerequisites needed to apply – just a desire to help others. Students can apply right from completing their undergraduate degree with no work experience needed. They offer online and on-campus formats to appeal to students anywhere.

20th Annual New England Science Symposium Virtual

The Harvard Medical School Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership and the Biomedical Science Careers Program (BSCP) is looking for fellows/students (particularly Black/African-American, Hispanic/LatinX and American Indian/Alaska Native individuals) involved in biomedical or health-related scientific research who would benefit from presenting their research projects at the 20th annual New England Science Symposium (NESS).

Transforming Analytical Learning in the Era of Big Data: A Summer Institute in Biostatistics (SIBS) Program

June 7 – July 30, 2021!
This part-time 8-week virtual summer institute will introduce undergraduate students to emerging challenges at the intersection of Big Data, Statistics, and Human Health. This summer’s virtual program will include contributions from a diverse group of University of Michigan faculty in the biomedicine and public health fields and their perspective of big data. Working in teams, students will participate in mentored big data research projects.

STEM Majors: NIEHS Scholars Connect Program

The NIEHS Scholars Connect Program (NSCP) is designed to provide a unique opportunity for highly motivated science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focused undergraduate students to solidly connect with NIEHS and receive training in biomedical research. Students in NSCP have an opportunity for hands-on mentored research experiences, as well as professional and personal development.

Why should I apply?

As a Scholar, you will be a part of research teams striving to accomplish NIEHS research mission in areas related to human health and the environment. NSCP is dedicated to providing training in biomedical research so that you can apply your knowledge outside the classroom and gain career-changing experiences. You will have the opportunity to network and explore federal career opportunities. Career mentoring from NIEHS investigators will be available during your appointment.

Stipend

  • $2,300/month (Full-Time Summer Connection)
  • $850/month (Part-Time Fall and Spring Connections)

Summer Training in Academic Research and Scholarship (STARS) Program Application

STARS Program is a summer research opportunity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) for underrepresented in medicine (URiM) undergraduate rising junior and seniors, and first-year medical students with an interest in pursuing advanced careers as research scientists, physician and/or healthcare professionals. Started 2008, STARS is an eight-week mentored summer program. Students participate in hands-on training in research methods and practice directly in the labs of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School’s leading researching, ending in a final research presentation.

*Per AAMC Guidelines, URiM includes individuals who self-identify as African American/Black, Alaskan Native, Native American, Hispanic/Latinx, and/or Native Hawaiian.

Loyola Adventures in Urobiome Data (L.A.U.D.) Summer Research Program

LAUD will introduce students to ways in which data is revolutionizing research in urinary disease research. Over 8-weeks (June 2 – July 28), summer researchers will gain exposure to current research areas in benign urologic disease, conduct hypothesis-driven research, and develop the skills to synthesize, interpret, and present their scientific research! Summer researchers will work with research faculty, postdoctoral and clinical fellows, medical and graduate students currently engaged in urinary research at Loyola University Chicago.

For summer 2021, this will be a virtual experience due to COVID restrictions. Research students will be awarded a $3250 stipend. Undergraduate students or recent grads who are interested in how data drives medical research and clinical practice and/or urology are encouraged to apply.

Applications open January 1 and are due March 1.

Global Health Core Fellowships

Global Health Corps seeks to build the next generation of diverse health leaders. They offer a range of paid fellowship roles with health organizations in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia and the opportunity to develop as a transformative leader in the health equity movement. By the start of the fellowship, fellows must: Be 30 years or younger, Hold a bachelor’s/undergraduate degree, Be proficient in English, and Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the US or Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, or Zambia.

Summer Research at University of Michigan

The University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center is pleased to offer a 10-week fellowship program starting in June 2021 to support undergraduate students interested in cardiovascular research. Each fellow will be matched to a laboratory led by a FCVC faculty member and participate in nationally recognized research in areas such as atherosclerosis, genetic cardiomyopathies, blood clotting disorders, cardiac arrhythmias, vascular biology, and heart failure.

Due to the pandemic, exact program dates and format are pending.

Summer Health Professions Education Program

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a summer experience for students interested in the health professions. The program offers opportunities to explore health careers, including dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and public health.

The FREE six-week summer enrichment program prepares college students for a career in the health professions by enhancing their academic proficiency and providing career development opportunities. Participation in SHPEP may better position students for acceptance into advanced-degree programs.
