Alumni Invited to Masterworks Spring Concert Reception

Masterworks spring concert bannerJoin Augsburg alumni and the Augsburg Alumni Board for a dessert reception following the Masterworks Chorale of Augsburg’s Spring Concert, “Finlandia Meets Earth Day,” on April 23.

Visit with chorale members, members of the Augsburg Alumni Board, Masterworks Director Dr. Peter Hendrickson ’76, and composers Steve Heitzeg and Olli Kortekangas.

Admission to the concert is free.

Seven Songs for Planet Earth, by Olli Kortekangas – Midwest Premiere in Minneapolis

Seven Songs for Planet Earth, Finnish composer Olli Kortekangas’s symphonic cantata with Earth Day texts by Wendell Berry, will receive its Midwest premiere on the Earth Day weekend, with mezzo-soprano Nicole Warner ’01, baritone Aaron Larson, Nancy Grundahl’s children’s choir Angelica Cantanti, and the Masterworks Chorale of Augsburg College, conducted by Peter Hendrickson. The work was first performed in 2011 in Washington D.C., and has since received both American and Finnish performances.

Alumni Connect at Rochester Reception

More than 90 Augsburg alumni, friends, and community leaders came together for a special networking event at the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester on May 18, featuring Rochester mayor Ardell Brede, President Pribbenow, and guest speaker Dr. Paul S. Mueller ’84.

Mueller, the chair of the Augsburg Board of Regents spoke on the topic of “Augsburg College: Small to Our Students and Big for the World,” and cited current student Vision Bagonza ’17 and recent graduate Michelle Grafelman ’15 as students living out Augsburg’s mission. With more than 2,500 Auggies living in the Rochester area, the College’s presence in Minnesota’s fastest growing city is growing. The event was an opportunity for local alumni to connect, meet community leaders, hear more about the great work Augsburg is doing as the premier private education provider in Rochester. Homecoming Week kicked off with the third annual Maroon & Silver Society reception on Tuesday, September 23, in the Arnold Atrium of Hoversten Chapel. The Maroon & Silver Society recognizes donors who give generously to the College’s annual fund, The Augsburg Fund, with gifts of $1,000 or more each year.
