Summer parking permits for 2017 will go on sale Tuesday, April 18th at 8:00am. If you have a valid 2016-2017 parking permit, you will be able to use that for Summer parking in surface lots K, A, B, D, and L. If you need to purchase a parking permit for the Summer semester, log into your Inside Augsburg account and register your vehicle information. You will be able to select the permit type you will need and pay online, or stop by Public Safety. If you have any questions, email parking@augsburg.edu or come to Public Safety.
Use of Recreational Facilities in Kennedy Center/Si Melby Hall
The Augsburg Department of Public Safety would like to remind our entire campus community that facility use in Kennedy Center and Sci Melby Hall is for students, staff, faculty, alumni and authorized users. Members of these groups are not permitted to host guests in this space. Check-in procedures after regular business hours will be enforced and an appropriate picture ID will be required. Fob access will also be required after 5:00pm daily. Those found not in compliance will be asked to leave and may be legally prohibited from returning to Augsburg’s campus. Any student, staff, faculty, alumni or authorized user who intentionally violates or attempts to circumvent this policy may lose access privileges as well as face appropriate disciplinary actions.

In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 Augsburg DPS is giving notice of a concerning pattern of incidents that have occurred in the Christensen Center, near Einstein’s.
REPORTED OFFENSE: Today’s incident involved a student leaving a laptop at a table and going to the Einstein’s counter. While only out of view for a few moments, property was believed to be taken by an individual that had been seated at a public access computer.
SUSPECTS: While no suspects have been identified, perpetrators are believed to be juvenile, non-Augsburg students.
STATUS: These incidents remains under investigation by the Augsburg Department of Public Safety and/or the Minneapolis Police Department. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact DPS at 612-330-1717.

Department of Education Releases Final Rules following the SaVE Act
On October 20, 2014, the Department of Education released its final rules following the SaVE Act. The SaVE Act, known as the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act, amended the Jeanne Clery Act to specifically address sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking on College Campuses.

Minneapolis PrepareFair
September is National Emergency Preparedness Month, and the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District is hosting its annual Minneapolis PrepareFair on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the IDS Crystal Court, City Center, and Nicollet Mall between 6th and 10th Streets.
The Minneapolis PrepareFair is hosted to encourage people to be prepared for emergencies. The PrepareFair will have demonstrations from the Minneapolis SWAT team, Bomb Squad, K-9 Patrol, and other units during the day on Nicollet mall.

Mustafa Family Crime Ring Indicted
On August 12, 2014, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota announced that it had indicted the Mustafa Family Crime Ring. In addition to the U.S. Attorney’s press release, multiple media outlets, including Fox 9, the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, and MPR, among many others, reported the indictment that involved an Apple Valley based crime ring.
According to the U.S. Attorney, the Mustafa Family Crime Ring stole identities to defraud phone companies and used 13 stores across the twin cities to sell fraudulently obtained phone accounts at deeply discounted prices. The Crime ring also used robbery of phones, commonly known as “apple picking.” MPR reported on the twin cities wide uptick in robbery of cell phones during the past year. The rise in robbery of cell phones coincided with the Crime Ring’s conspiracy to obtain cell phones through direct theft and robbery.
According to Fox 9, he University of Minnesota Police were also involved in the investigation, “Police Chief Greg Hestness said the takedown of Mustafa family attacked the root of last fall’s campus crime wave.”
You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!
-Trust Your Instincts – If you sense trouble, get away
-Be Observant and Aware – Remain alert, be aware of your surroundings, observe the other people around you. Know who is around you. Be alert for suspicious behavior (e.g. a person wearing a long coat in the middle of summer, loitering, etc.)
-Walk Confidently and Do Not Make Yourself a Target – Robbers are looking for an easy target. Keep your head up and eyes alert and walk at a steady pace. Do not walk while looking at you phone and avoid carrying lots of packages or other belongings.
-If You are Robbed – Stay calm and remember: safety first! Follow the robber’s directions, but do not volunteer more than asked for. If you have to move, tell the robber what you are doing and why. Try to get a good look at the robber so you can describe him/her later. Give the robber time to leave and note the direction he/she travels.
-After a Robbery – CALL DPS OR THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY. Avoid touching anything the robber has touched. Try to recall as you can about the robber including speech and mannerisms.
-Notify DPS of any suspicious activity right away
