The Rev. John Matthews, an adjunct professor of religion in the Rochester undergraduate program, spoke May 8 in Muskegon, Mich., about the life and legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a fervent resister during World War II of the Nazi movement. Matthews, past president of the International Bonhoeffer Society, delivered the 33rd Annual Charles H. Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities and that was sponsored by the Friends of the Hackley Library. Matthews is a pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Apple Valley. Former nursing faculty member talks with Pioneer Press
Lucie Ferrell, who taught nursing at Augsburg College, spoke with the Pioneer Press’ Ruben Rosario about her visit to the National September 11 Memorial Museum. Ferrell was among the first wave of first responders from Minnesota who went to New York City to respond to the attacks on the World Trade Center towers. Adjunct faculty member receives prestigious award
Augsburg College’s Rev. John Matthews, an adjunct faculty member at the Rochester location, was awarded the prestigious Charles H. Hackley Distinguished Lecture Award on May 8. Matthews is a founding member of the ELCA Consultative Panel for Lutheran-Jewish Relations whose work is part of a permanent display at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Public invited to help write history of City of Minneapolis
Historyapolis uses social media, public to write first history of City since 1940
Minnesotans are invited to make history by taking part in the innovative Historyapolis Project which is using Facebook, Twitter, and the public to write the stories of the City of Minneapolis for an upcoming book.
“The citizens of our state are hungry for complex stories that will help them understand how Minneapolis became the wonderful, complex and contradictory place that it is,” said Kirsten Delegard, founder of the Historyapolis Project and scholar-in-residence at Augsburg College. “This project, the first to undertake the City’s history since 1940, will create a central clearinghouse where people can find a full story of our past.” Continue reading “Public invited to help write history of City of Minneapolis”
