Safety Tips

  • Remain vigilant against tailgating at building entrances. Ensure exterior building entrances shut completely behind you, and do not let unfamiliar people follow you inside without swiping their own fob or ID.  Please call the Department of Public Safety at (612) 330-1717 to report the contact with the unfamiliar person when safe to do so.

  • Lock doors and windows:  Always lock room, apartment, and house doors – even when you are sleeping, in the shower, or stepping out for a few minutes.  Lock all first and second-story windows when you leave.

  • Never prop doors. Do not prop open residence hall or apartment complex doors, and avoid holding them open for strangers.

  • Hide valuables from plain view.

  • Call Public Safety or the Minneapolis Police if you see any suspicious activity.
