MFA mentor Jack El-Hai wins Minnesota Book Award
Augsburg MFA in Creative Writing mentor Jack El-Hai recently won the Minnesota Book Award for General Nonfiction for his book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist: Hermann Goring, Dr. Douglas M. Kelley and a Fatal Meeting of Minds at the End of WWII.” El-Hai’s book tells the story of the remarkable relationship between Army psychiatrist Capt. Douglas M. Kelley and the elite of the captured Nazi regime, particularly Hermann Goring. David Murr ’92 discusses space weather with Star Tribune
David Murr ’92, Augsburg College associate professor of physics, was quoted in a recent Star Tribune science brief on advances in solar storm detection. Murr discussed researchers’ efforts to help governments and industry develop better assessments of the risks solar storms pose to the world’s technological infrastructure. Jack El-Hai appears on TPT
Augsburg MFA in Creative Writing nonfiction mentor Jack El-Hai and author David Lebedoff compared writing styles and personal methods on TPT’s Matters of Fact on March 30. El-Hai is the author of “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist,” and with Lebedoff discussed topics ranging from writers’ block to sources of inspiration and working in coffee shops. The Lutheran features Losar celebration and Nobel Peace Prize Forum
Two events with ties to Augsburg College were featured in The Lutheran magazine’s April 2014 edition. The ELCA publication featured photos of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama celebrating Losar, the Tibetan New Year, in Augsburg’s Si Melby gymnasium on March 2. Also pictured was His Holiness, a day earlier, blessing Tenzin Yeshi Paichang ’16 as part of a keynote presentation at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Forum.

Tenzin Yeshi Paichang ’16 plays unique role for Dalai Lama
When he was two years old, Augsburg student Tenzin Yeshi Paichang ’16 was cast as His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Martin Scorcese’s movie “Kundun.” This past weekend, Paichang added a new role to his resume — that of His Holiness’s student attache at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. Paichang’s experiences were featured by the Pioneer Press in, “Dalai Lama’s visit will be third juncture for Augsburg student” and by WCCO television in the story, “Dalai Lama Visits Minneapolis For Nobel Peace Prize Forum, Tibetan New Year.”
Star Tribune features Augsburg lacrosse team
In advance of Augsburg College’s first varsity lacrosse game, which occurred February 22, the Star Tribune interviewed head coach Kathryn Knippenberg and team member Rachel Frantz ’17.
