Augsburg Student Compositions Final Performance

image of a music notePlease join us for a virtual event featuring new compositions by our Augsburg student composers. The members of the Fifth House Ensemble have been in residence at Augsburg University this spring and they collaborated with students on a series of works that have technology at their core. Some of the music is intended to be performed over Zoom and take into account the lag, others are recorded separately and edited together. The ensemble worked closely with the students over a period of months and the pieces will be a great representation of this process. In addition to these pieces, we will also be sharing some other works written collaboratively among the band students. Continue reading “Augsburg Student Compositions Final Performance”

Spektral Quartet Residency

The Augsburg University Music Department and MacPhail Center for Music are proud to have the GRAMMY Nominated Spektral Quartet in residency on October 17-18, 2019!

With the New York Times writing that “they have everything: a supreme technical command that seems to come easily, a capacity to make complicated music clear, and, most notably…an ability to cast a magic spell,” Spektral is known for creating seamless connections across centuries, drawing in the listener with charismatic deliveries, interactive concert formats, an up-close atmosphere, and bold, inquisitive programming.

In 2017, The Chicago Tribune named Spektral Quartet classical music’s “Chicagoans of the Year” in part because of the group’s creation of three new series around the city – each highlighting a unique mission. Continue reading “Spektral Quartet Residency”
