Congratulations to the Class of 2014

commencement4newsAt Commencement ceremonies on May 3-4, Augsburg College will honor more than 800 graduation candidates who intend to complete their undergraduate or graduate degree requirements before the end of the 2014 calendar year. The list of honorees includes students studying in one of nine graduate degree programs or specializing in one of more than 50 undergraduate majors offered at Augsburg. Visit the College’s Commencement website for event details and distinguished guest information.

Students who wish to notify their hometown newspapers of their achievement may do so at their discretion using Augsburg College’s official hometown news announcement.

The first commencement celebrations of Minnesota’s private colleges takes place the weekend of May 3-4 at Augsburg College with ceremonies for traditional day undergraduates on May 3 and for students of the adult undergraduate, Rochester, and nursing programs and graduate students on May 4. The schedules and details about media photo opportunities are below.

May 3: Traditional Day Undergraduate Program

Ceremonies are in Si Melby Hall located on 23rd Avenue South. In the event of rain, students will line up in the basement of Si Melby and process up the stairs into the gym.

Dave Conrad responds to work-life balance question

Jenni Lilledahl ’87 appears on KARE 11

kareAugsburg College alumna Jenni Lilledahl ’87 helped co-found Gilda’s Club Twin Cities, a new space where people living with cancer and their families can find social, emotional, and psychological support. Lilledahl serves as chair of the organization’s Board of Directors and also is the owner of Brave New Workshop, a Twin Cities-based comedy theater. Watch Lilledahl discuss Gilda’s Club on KARE 11 News.

Jeanne Boeh appears on TPT

On April 18, Augsburg College professor of economics Jeanne Boeh joined Star Tribune business columnist Lee Schafer and American Public Media correspondent Chris Farrell in a business panel discussion on Almanac, a Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) program. On the public affairs show, the panel discussed local and national economic issues ranging from the housing market and social security to employee compensation and inflation. Public invited to help write history of City of Minneapolis

Historyapolis uses social media, public to write first history of City since 1940

Minnesotans are invited to make history by taking part in the innovative Historyapolis Project which is using Facebook, Twitter, and the public to write the stories of the City of Minneapolis for an upcoming book.

“The citizens of our state are hungry for complex stories that will help them understand how Minneapolis became the wonderful, complex and contradictory place that it is,” said Kirsten Delegard, founder of the Historyapolis Project and scholar-in-residence at Augsburg College. “This project, the first to undertake the City’s history since 1940, will create a central clearinghouse where people can find a full story of our past.” Continue reading “Public invited to help write history of City of Minneapolis” →

Star Tribune features Amineh Safi ’14

Minneapolis Star TribuneStar Tribune columnist Gail Rosenblum featured Augsburg College student Amineh Safi ’14 in a recent story examining news coverage of Muslims. In the column, Safi described findings from her research on the portrayal of Muslims in the media and her experiences with diversity in college. Safi’s research opportunity was offered through the McNair Scholars program at Augsburg and conducted under the mentorship of Diane Pike, sociology professor, who also was quoted in the column. Jacquie Berglund ’87 and Finnegans pioneer ‘reverse’ food truck

Minneapolis Star TribuneAugsburg alumna Jacquie Berglund ’87, CEO of Finnegans charitable beer company, was quoted in a Star Tribune story on the business’s latest endeavor: a reverse food truck. According to the Star Tribune, Finnegans’ will drive its new vehicle to locations around the Twin Cities to collect nonperishable food items and monetary donations. All donations go back to Finnegans’ community fund, which channels the food to local food shelves and uses monetary donations to buy fresh produce from local farms.
