Augsburg College alumnus Cris Gears ’73 will retire from a life of service to the public, most recently as superintendent of Three Rivers Park District. Gears has served the cities of St. Louis Park and Excelsior, and many more communities and organizations.
Michael Howard ’05 runs for Richfield City Council
Augsburg College alumnus Michael Howard ’05, who currently serves as communications director for the Minnesota House DFL caucus, will run for a position on the Richfield City Council, according to a Sun Current news brief.

More than 700 Augsburg College undergraduate students were named to the 2014 Spring Semester Dean’s List. Students named to the list achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 scale.

Dave Conrad talks about shared purpose in Post-Bulletin
Dave Conrad, assistant director of the Augsburg College MBA program in Rochester, talked in his most recent Rochester Post-Bulletin column a response to a question about fostering shared purpose and collaboration in the workplace. Conrad outlined steps toward building cohesion, including the need to identify with employees the goals, path, roles, and rewards of a project. Minnesota Urban Debate League’s (MNUDL) first Spanish-language debate was the subject of a story by Minnesota Public Radio’s Tim Post. The story provided a brief overview of why MNUDL, a program that serves more than 500 students at 33 public schools, added such a competition to its program, how the new event allows the program to introduce more bilingual students to debate, and more. Adjunct faculty member speaks about legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer
The Rev. John Matthews, an adjunct professor of religion in the Rochester undergraduate program, spoke May 8 in Muskegon, Mich., about the life and legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a fervent resister during World War II of the Nazi movement. Matthews, past president of the International Bonhoeffer Society, delivered the 33rd Annual Charles H. Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities and that was sponsored by the Friends of the Hackley Library. Matthews is a pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Apple Valley. Augsburg College names Beth Reissenweber Chief Financial Officer, Vice President for Finance and Administration
Augsburg College today announced the appointment of Beth Reissenweber as the College’s Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, Reissenweber will lead Augsburg’s finance, accounting, purchasing, facilities, and human resources functions. She will officially start at Augsburg in July.

Former campus ministry staff named bishop of St. Paul Area Synod
Rev. Patricia Lull was elected the first female bishop of the St. Paul Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Lull, who served as staff for Augsburg’s campus ministry, was elected on the fifth ballot. Previously, Lull was executive director of the St. Paul Area Council of Churches. Former nursing faculty member talks with Pioneer Press
Lucie Ferrell, who taught nursing at Augsburg College, spoke with the Pioneer Press’ Ruben Rosario about her visit to the National September 11 Memorial Museum. Ferrell was among the first wave of first responders from Minnesota who went to New York City to respond to the attacks on the World Trade Center towers.
