As part of our preceptor spotlight series here at Augsburg University PA Program we are highlighting one of our alum!
Meet Miranda LaCroix, PA-C who graduated in 2021; she currently works in Hospital Medicine caring for acutely ill adults. When asked about why she chose the path she did, it was simple: “I love the ability to treat acute conditions and see the quick improvement as someone is treated as well as the ability to encounter a variety of conditions day to day.”
What has your journey into medicine been like?
My journey into medicine started as having a mentor in the medical field. I knew I wanted to be in medicine, but not the particular role until I discovered being a Physician Assistant and the ability to practice in multiple specialties and a broad depth of knowledge.
Any tips for students transitioning from medical training to their careers?
It will be a steep learning curve from training to a career in medicine – but everyone has that happen to them so don’t get discouraged!
How long have you been a preceptor? Why did you decide to precept?
I’ve been a preceptor for 2 years. I decided to precept because I enjoy teaching the future generation of PA students and sharing my enjoyment of my specialty.
If you were not a medical provider, what career could you see yourself doing?
Baker! My best friend from grade school and myself have a pact that if we decide to quit our day jobs, we will open a bakery!
What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my Newfoundland puppy, Tryptophan and my cats, Tyrosine and Alanine when I’m off work. My dog and I frequent a variety of dog parks and finding new trials to explore around the cities.
We appreciate all Miranda does for our students in the clinic as she shows them how to handle complex cases with dignity and care.
