Dr. Ned Hallowell, M.D. will make two presentations as part of the 2007-2008
Convocation Series “Many Voices Bold Vision.” His first presentation, “Worry,” will be held Friday, Feb. 15 at 3:30 p.m. “CrazyBusy,” the second of Hallowell’s presentations, will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at Noon. Both events will be held in Hoversten Chapel in the Foss Center.
Edward (Ned) Hallowell, a child and adult psychiatrist and graduate of Harvard College and Tulane Medical School, is the founder of The Hallowell Center in Sudbury, Mass. He was a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty from 1983 until he retired from academics in 2004 to devote his full professional attention to his clinical practice, lectures, and the writing of books. He has authored 14 books on various psychological topics, including attention deficit disorder, the power of the human connection, the childhood roots of happiness in life, methods of forgiving others, dealing with worry, and managing excessive business. On Saturday, Feb. 9, Augsburg’s weekend college (WEC) Student Senate will be holding an event on campus for all WEC students and families called “WEC Winter Wonderland.” The event includes prize drawings, reserved seating at the Auggie women’s hockey game, and free open skating following the game.
Social Work professor Nancy Rodenborg and the Coalition for Student Activism (CSA) were the recipients of the 2008 Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards. The winners received their awards at the luncheon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21.
U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton will visit Augsburg College’s Si Melby Gymnasium at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 as part of her presidential campaign. Those who wish to attend are being asked to RSVP at the web site of the Minnesota office of Clinton’s campaign, http://www.HillaryClintonMN.com. Doors to the event will open at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
By the time the general election rolls around in November 2008, the candidates and platform for each party will be set in stone. The Minnesota party caucuses, the majority of which will be held on Feb. 5 (a.k.a., “Super Tuesday”), offer us a chance to determine who will be on that November ballot.
On Thursday, Feb.7, the Asian Student Association and Pan-Asian Student Services will sponsor a Lunar New Year celebration and panel discussion on campus.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Augsburg faculty and staff can learn about “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,” the Minnesota National Guard’s reintegration program for returning soldiers. Chaplain John Morris (Lt. Col.) will explain how the program provides benefits and resources to ease the returnees’ reintegration into families and communities. The event takes place from 3:15 – 5:15 p.m. in Sateren Auditorium.
Augsburg will host a teach-in on Jan. 31, targeting a single issue — global warming solutions — as part of a national effort sponsored by Focus the Nation. Across the country, more than 1,000 colleges, high schools, civic organizations and businesses will create a day of brainstorming and engagement in discussions concerning responses to environmental challenges. Focus the Nation identifies a clear goal: “Our intent is to move America beyond fatalism to a determination to face up to this civilizational challenge, the challenge of our generation.” Their hope is “to launch a discussion far-reaching enough to change the future.”
