First Year Students

Summer Orientation And Registration (SOAR)

Prior to SOAR, Academic Advisors register first-year students in full schedules based on their major and the course interests they indicate in the Course Request Form (located in the Admissions Portal).

To be registered for classes, it is essential to complete the Math Placement Test . All Augsburg students must demonstrate College Algebra proficiency for graduation and some majors such as Business and STEM require this proficiency before you can enroll in major-specific courses. You may be waived from the math placement test if you have transferred in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus coursework from a college institution or received the required score on a credit by exam.

College credit earned in high school

First-year students who have earned college credits in high school through programs such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College in the Schools (CIS), or Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) will need to have an official transcript sent to Augsburg AS SOON AS POSSIBLE — a high school transcript will not be sufficient. Visit the Registrar’s website for more information on credit by exams and transcript submission.

If the college/university you attended offers secure electronic delivery of official transcripts, provide admissiondocs@augsburg.edu as the email recipient.

Augsburg Seminars

All first-year students participate in an Augsburg Seminar (AugSem/AUG101), which is a 1-credit course that focuses on the transition from high school to college. The course helps students build community, refine academic skills, connect with campus resources, and more. Augsburg Seminar is a required general education course for graduation.
