First Year Students

Summer Orientation And Registration (SOAR)

Prior to SOAR, Academic Advisors build full schedules for all incoming first-year students. During Academic Advisors’ presentation at SOAR, Advisors will review Augsburg’s academic curriculum and requirements, as well as help students make adjustments to their schedule if needed.

There are two very important steps you must complete before SOAR:

  • Take the Math Placement Test this is especially important for students planning to major in any business, STEM, or Natural Sciences major.
Note: You may be waived from the math placement test due to academic history. Check your admissions portal.
  • Complete the Course Request Form found in your admissions portal – DUE JUNE 10th!

College credit earned in high school

First-year students who have earned college credits in high school through programs such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College in the Schools (CIS), or Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) will need to have an official transcript sent AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to Augsburg by the credit-granting organization to be awarded credit — a high school transcript will not be sufficient. Visit the Registrar’s website for more information on credit by exams and transcript submission.

If the college/university you attended offers secure electronic delivery of official transcripts, provide admissiondocs@augsburg.edu as the email recipient.

Augsburg Seminars

All first-year students participate in an Augsburg Seminar (AugSem), which is a 1-credit course that focuses on the transition from high school to college. The course helps students build community, refine academic skills, connect with campus resources, and more.
