As was announced in December 2007, the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars selected Augsburg as its partner for the Republican National Convention Seminar. The 2-week seminar will begin 1 week prior to the Convention, which will be held Sept. 1 – 4 at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul. Augsburg will host 250 students from across the country who will interact with local and national politicians, journalists and others during the convention.
Spaces have been reserved for 20 Augsburg students (at a reduced rate) among the 250. To apply, do NOT use the Washington Center’s web site. Instead, fill out the application form available in the Dean’s Office (1st floor, Memorial Hall). On Saturday, Feb. 9, Augsburg’s weekend college (WEC) Student Senate will be holding an event on campus for all WEC students and families called “WEC Winter Wonderland.” The event includes prize drawings, reserved seating at the Auggie women’s hockey game, and free open skating following the game.
Social Work professor Nancy Rodenborg and the Coalition for Student Activism (CSA) were the recipients of the 2008 Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards. The winners received their awards at the luncheon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21.
U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton will visit Augsburg College’s Si Melby Gymnasium at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 as part of her presidential campaign. Those who wish to attend are being asked to RSVP at the web site of the Minnesota office of Clinton’s campaign, http://www.HillaryClintonMN.com. Doors to the event will open at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
By the time the general election rolls around in November 2008, the candidates and platform for each party will be set in stone. The Minnesota party caucuses, the majority of which will be held on Feb. 5 (a.k.a., “Super Tuesday”), offer us a chance to determine who will be on that November ballot.
On Thursday, Feb.7, the Asian Student Association and Pan-Asian Student Services will sponsor a Lunar New Year celebration and panel discussion on campus.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Augsburg faculty and staff can learn about “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,” the Minnesota National Guard’s reintegration program for returning soldiers. Chaplain John Morris (Lt. Col.) will explain how the program provides benefits and resources to ease the returnees’ reintegration into families and communities. The event takes place from 3:15 – 5:15 p.m. in Sateren Auditorium.
