Pre-Health Advising

If you are looking for virtual pre-health shadowing opportunities, I have added some additional resources to the URGO website this week.

URGO has extended the Phase 1 summer research application deadline to February 16th. The Phase 2 application deadline is now due March 1st. This change is to give students more time to find a research mentor and to work with them to write a strong application. Visit URGO’s website for resources on finding off-campus research opportunities as well. Continue reading “Pre-Health Newsletter: February 4, 2021”

Pre-Health Advising

I have received many numerous inquiries about shadowing during COVID-19. While most hospitals and clinics are unable to offer in-person opportunities, many schools have offered virtual sessions with their students and alumni. I often include announcements about these virtual opportunities in the newsletter so make sure that you check the content below.

Pre-Health Shadowing also offers virtual shadowing sessions for pre-health students. Continue reading “Pre-Health Newsletter: January 26, 2021”

Prehealth Advising

I hope the new year is off to a great start for you and you are enjoying your winter break! Winter break is a great time to pursue co-curricular activities such as volunteer or community service, work on applications for research opportunities and enrichment programs, or to catch up on podcasts (The Gustavus Health Professions Podcast features alumni interviews, admission counselors, recruiters and other interesting health related topics), other virtual learning opportunities and reading. What you choose to read helps to demonstrate your interests and passion, especially now when other opportunities may not be available, and choosing not to read and stay informed also sends a strong message. Use your time wisely and enjoy your break! Upcoming Events

As mentioned in the last newsletter, participating in virtual events is a great way to get information and connect with schools. You can always ask schools to help you get connected with alumni–this is a great way to meet with someone and at least conduct an informational interview. Also, don’t forget to sign up for Health Professions Week, November 14-19, where you can access resources to learn about 20 health professions, meet with schools, and have the opportunity to win gift cards ($100) or scholarships ($500) or Kaplan test prep materials. Pre-health Advising

I hope fall semester is going well for you and you are staying healthy! COVID-19 has precipitated many changes and requires us to be flexible and creative. These are important attributes to demonstrate, especially for pre-health students. One major change for pre-health students is how to gain experience during a pandemic. What many admissions offices, across all programs, have shared is the continued need to gain experience although there may be fewer opportunities to meet in person or to shadow. For that reason, virtual information sessions are more important than ever. Please consider participating in the following opportunities I am hosting or those shared in the newsletter:
