Creating an inclusive campus

inclusivecampusThe Augsburg mission affirms that the College community is committed to intentional diversity in its life and work. The fourth annual “Creating an Inclusive Campus” conference, which will be held May 22-24 at Augsburg, calls us to ask what this commitment means, to celebrate what we are doing right, and to engage in dialogue about how we can continue to improve.

The opening session on Tuesday, May 22, is “Transformative Conversations: The Art of Building Bridges and Civil Spaces.” In this session, a student panel will share their experience of dialogue across differences. Participants will explore concrete skills that can support the authentic connections necessary for creating an inclusive campus community. The session will also provide an opportunity to apply the concepts of intergroup dialogue in conversations about political and religious issues that often become divisive in an election year. Class of 2015 feeds the pig

feedthepigDuring this spring’s student philanthropy week, Augsburg students saved their pennies—and maybe a few 1 and 5 dollar bills—to support The Augsburg Fund and to learn about the importance of giving back.

This year, the Class of 2015 had the most donors in the Feed the Pig campaign. On April 10, members of the winning class celebrated their victory by enjoying a party at Augsburg House with President Pribbenow and his family, courtesy of The Augsburg Fund. Alums find "Thunder" in the Augsburg Now

mannequin_nowFor the Spring 2012 issue of the Augsburg Now magazine, photographer Stephen Geffre shared a photo and some interesting factoids about the Augsburg grounds crew student break room. The magazine hit many alumni mailboxes last week, and the “personality of place” piece caught the eye of the family of Ryan Forsberg ’01.

Forsberg emailed Geffre:

I recently was made aware that our beloved mannequin has found a home. Though not where we left her (our spot was hidden but alas she was found), I’m glad to see she has been spared a life at the land fill. While [she was] not really my mannequin, but rather my roommate’s [Andy Akenson], I ask thee one huge favor. Though gone from our lives, she is remembered in our hearts. Share her real name to those that love her now. Let it be known her name was Thunder! Continue reading “Alums find "Thunder" in the Augsburg Now”
