Semester Check-In

At the start of Fall and Spring semesters, ISSS requires an in-person visit to check-in and register F-1 and J-1 students in SEVIS.  These meetings typically take about 5 minutes and allow us to review your SEVIS record and make any updates needed.  ISSS will keep open office hours during the registration period so no appointment is necessary.  Schedule an an appointment is you have extra questions or need to make substantial changes to your I-20/DS-2019.

The deadline for this meeting is the last day of Add/drop, usually in the 2nd week of the semester. Failure to check-in can result in termination of your I-20!

Near the end of every semester, F-1 students that are graduating, intend to travel, or have other substantial changes to their program are required to connect with the ISSS office.

Both the semester start and end of semester checks allow ISSS to review your F-1 files, and make sure:

  • your immigration status is valid, including any change of address;
  • you have access to current and valid health insurance; and
  • you have an opportunity to share your goals for the coming year.
  • avoid surprises and stay in-status

If you would like an in-depth one-on-one session with ISSS, please schedule a time on Navigate.
