For zero dollars, what is a fun time Friday night in Sateren Auditorium? The answer—the first-ever ACTC Math Jeopardy tournament, a friendly competition among Augsburg, University of St. Thomas, and Macalester. No computers will participate.
The idea for a Jeopardy tournament was the idea of mathematics professor Katy Micek, who wanted to create a tradition of friendly competition among the ACTC mathematics clubs. With funding support from the dean’s office, Augsburg Student Government, and the participating schools, the tournament became possible and will feature a gameboard and buzzer-and-light system, just as on TV. Last week, just past midnight after St. Patrick’s Day, NASA’s MESSENGER spacecraft successfully slipped into an orbit around Mercury, the innermost planet. This was a difficult maneuver against the pull of the sun, and the groups of science teams around the country who have worked on the Mercury MESSENGER project for seven years were elated, to say the least.
This week the Augsburg College Muslim Student Association is holding a series of events to generate awareness of Muslim culture and the Islamic faith. These events are co-sponsored by the Religion Department, Student Government, ASAC, AASA, Residence Life, Campus Ministry, Women¹s Studies.

Augsburg Abroad is accepting applications for Center for Global Education summer and fall study abroad programs in Central America, Mexico, Namibia until April 1. Augsburg Abroad is also accepting applications for summer and fall International/Exchange Partners Programs in Norway, Germany, Finland, Slovenia, and China. Today the Augsburg community celebrated the accomplishments of its staff at the annual staff recognition event. In addition to naming those who have served at the College for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years, the community also recognized those selected for outstanding contribution awards.
For these young men, the story isn’t about getting sober, staying sober, or even about climbing a mountain. It’s about second chances and taking chances.
What would compel a Texan to travel to Minnesota in February? It’s safe to say she didn’t know about Minnesota winters or that February is still very much winter in the state. But it’s also true that she came to Minnesota to help a friend and because she believes in the work of the StepUP Program.
